ANNOUNCES
34th ANNUAL GALA AND CO-CHAIRS.

Nat and
Ellen Calamis of Warwick will serve as co-chairs
for the 34th Annual Bishop's Ball, the signature
fundraising event sponsored by the St. Joseph Health
Services Foundation. The gala will be held October
30, 2009 at Twin River Event Center in Lincoln. |
The black tie event provides financial support to St.
Joseph Health Services of RI, the corporate parent of
Our Lady of Fatima Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital for
Specialty Care. Proceeds from this year's event will support
significant renovations at Fatima Hospital to accommodate
the relocation and enhancement of rehabilitation and psychiatric
services now housed at the St. Joseph campus in South
Providence.
Funds will also benefit the expansion of pediatric
dental services and ongoing improvements to the Emergency
Department.
Nat Calamis is president and CEO of Starkweather &
Shepley Insurance Brokerage Inc., based in East Providence.
He is the 12th president of the 130-year old firm and
a 35-year industry veteran. He is active in the community,
serves as a member of the national advisory board for
the Hartford Insurance Company and played baseball in
the Detroit Tigers minor-league system after graduating
from St. John's University. Ellen is a former middle
school teahcer and assistant principal at Monsignor
Clark School in Wakefield.
"We are very blessed and excited to have Nat and
Ellen Calamis lead our annual campaign and Ball this
year," said Bishop Thomas Tobin, chairman of the
hospital's board of trustees. "While this is a
challenging period to be seeking charitable support,
the demands of our Catholic health ministry remain great.
We are looking forward to a successful program and are
thankful for their volunteer leadership."
This event has raised almost five million dollars for
the hospital in its 33-year history. As one of the state's
largest employers, the St. Joseph Health Services organization
serves more than 200,000 patients annually through an
array of inpatient, outpatient and specialty services.
The hospital also provided more than $18 million in
charity and uncompensated care in 2008.
Corporate sponsorship opportunities and individual
tickets are available for the gala which includes dinner
and dancing to The Black Tie Band with Nancy Paolino,
as well as an exceptional silent auction.
